Managing Beyond the Ordinary has the potential to have been a very successful tool for managers. First, I think that the authors' were confused about what a manager's main responsibility is. Yes, it is true that problem solving is a big part of managing, but not the only aspect of it. The first part of the book was well written, but after that it started being repetitive. The whole book probably could have been condensed into a section of the book. Some of the weaknesses of the book was the repetitiveness, there could have been more explanation on how to problem solve, and the ten tasks were over explained. The book would have been more effective if there wasn't so much information repeated. The tools to successful problem solving was a good section, but there wasn't a very good explaination of how to actually carry out the methods. The ten tasks didn't need to be explained as much as they were. They would have been just as effective if they were condensed. On the other hand there were also stengths in this book. A stength in the book was that in each chapter there was a How To Guide. It was also helpful to have a summary at the end of each chapter. Another strength was the section on over coming barriers. Also surrounding yourself with the right people. Overall this book had more weaknesses than strengths, I would not recommend this book.
